John Derounian, 51, of Sea Cliff, has been sentenced at the Central Islip Courthouse to 51 months in prison for mail fraud, and 70 months in prison for possession of child pornography - a total of 121 months - pleading guilty to the charges in June last year.

As part of his sentence, Derounian has also agreed to pay $1,403,209.17 in restitution for his theft of more than $1.2 million from the estate of a deceased woman and was levied a $10,000 fine.

On Nov. 12, 2015, Derounian claimed to find the body of his tenant inside her Sea Cliff residence. He proceeded to call and email employees at Morgan Stanley in an effort to obtain $200,000 from her account.

U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue said that Derounian then forged a will naming himself as an executor and the sole beneficiary of his tenant’s estate and had the body cremated. Derounian then sold his tenant’s real estate property for more than $1 million and transferred the money to accounts in his control.

“When it comes to evil deeds, there is nothing more despicable than preying on children and robbing the dead,” USPIS Inspector-in-Charge Bartlett stated. “Today’s sentence is a lesson in karma and justice; when you break the law, your crimes will eventually be exposed.”

Donoghue added, “Derounian’s crimes were unconscionable and today’s sentence is well deserved,”
